The short answer is animal self-medication.

But what does this really mean?

Well let me explain what the words mean first!

Zoo means animal

Pharma means medicine

Cognosy means knowing

Animals have an innate ability to know what plant based remedies from their natural environment will heal them and bring them back into good health.

Animals still have this ability. We have taken our domestic animals out of their natural environments and so they are no longer able to self select. Instead we feed them what we think they require to remain in good health, sometimes these superfood supplements that we feed them are actually not what they require, but we do not ask them as we do not realise how clever they are in their knowledge. We simply add these superfoods to the bowls. In the wild animals are still able to self select. There are countless documented and researched incidences of animals still self medicating today in the wild.
